Outstanding young people from all fields that have contributed to the society received prestigious award from youth union in 2009. Basically, this highest award by youth union is organized annually to encourage youth leadership and recognize excellence to make a difference to the society. The ten recipients and 5 other nominees are also encouraged to study, work and train harder as well as to follow footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh.
In 2009, a total of 15 nominees were named and selected from 78 recommendations submitted by all the provinces and cities. These nominees had to compete for the top 10 awards. In the last 14 years, youth union has honored 140 outstanding young people who have made significant contributions and give back to the society.
The top 10 outstanding Vietnamese youths in 2009 are Vu Minh Chau (studying in Hanoi University for Natural Sciences), Bui The Duy (Chairperson of IT Faculty at Hanoi University of Technology), Nguyen Van Tu (Commissar of PPK9 team, Battalion PPK3, Military Zone 5), Vang Seo Sin (Secretary of Muong village youth branch from Ha Giang province), Vu Thi Huong (an athlete), Dang Tat Dung (Secretary of HCM City Law University’s youth branch), Dang Hong Anh (Chairperson of the Saigon Thuong Tin Real Estate Company), Tran Ngoc Toan (Vice-chief police officer for drug crime of Than Uyen district from Lai Chau province), Nguyen Hong Loc (an average worker at Saigon Water Supply Cooperation) and also Vu To Sa Anh (a music teacher from Ha Long School for Culture, Art & Tourism).
One of the recipients, Vu Thi Huong who is also known as ‘Queen of Speed’ is a famous athlete for she won four gold medals at track-and-field tournaments and also two SEA Games gold medal. Hence, she is not only famous in her country but also in Southeast Asia region.
Meanwhile, another recipient of the highest award, 30-year-old Dang Hong Anh, chairperson of Saigon Thuong Tin Real Estate Company is definitely a remarkable youth. With 11 billion dong of chartered capital, he has successfully expanded his firm in just six years as the company currently owns 1 trillion dong of chartered capital and total assets worth 6.8 trillion dong.
On another note, 22-year-old Vang Seo Sin from Ha Giang province started investing in animal husbandry with a capital of 63 million dong. In just a year, he made 114 million dong and formed a joint partnership in construction material industry. Sin is also a secretary of Muong village youth branch.
Perhaps, the most notable winner in 2009 is the youngest recipient, 19-year-old Vu Minh Chau. Previously, she received two gold medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad 40 and 41.
Youth union also selected a recipient from education field – Bui The Duy, a professor and chairperson of IT Faculty of the Hanoi University of Technology. Over the past six years, he won a number of science technology awards for his outstanding work. Besides that, Duy is also the coach and instructor for Vietnamese team that has participated in Asian ACM/ICPC programming contest in 2006, 2007 and 2008. The team clinched first prize in the contest.
Finally, 30-year-old Tran Ngoc Toan crime fighter (police officer) was also selected as one of the most outstanding youths in 2009 for he solved 157 drug-related cases between 2007 and 2009.
